Christine Ockrent | Speaker Biography

Christine Ockrent is a journalist, broadcaster, and author known for her contributions to French television. Born in Brussels, she grew up in Paris and attended the Institut D'Etudes Politique before studying at Cambridge University. Ockrent began her career as a researcher at the NBC News Paris bureau, followed by eight years at CBS News' 60 Minutes in London. In 1981, she made history as the first French female evening news anchor and editor for the Antenne 2 TV network.

Throughout her career, Ockrent has produced documentaries and served as the anchor of the weekly current affairs program "France Europe Express" on France 3 Television. She has also held positions as the editor-in-chief of the weekly news magazine L'Express and the former COO of France 24 and RFI, a French television and radio world service.

In addition to her television work, Ockrent is a prolific writer, with 13 well-received books and essays to her name. She regularly contributes to publications such as The Guardian, El Pais, l'Espresso, Prospect, and various other European newspapers and magazines. Ockrent is also a frequent guest on the BBC and other TV and radio networks.

Throughout her career, Ockrent has been recognized with prestigious awards, including the French Legion d'Honneur, the Ordre national du Mérite, and the Officer de l'ordre de Léopold (Belgium). She is actively involved in various organizations, serving on the boards of the European Council on Foreign Relations (ECFR), the Center for European Reform (CER), Open Society Initiative for Europe (OSIFE), and Human Rights Watch France.
