Patrick Monahan is an American musician, singer, and songwriter. He is best known as the lead vocalist of the rock band Train. Born in Erie, Pennsylvania, Monahan began his music career in high school, performing in local bars and clubs. He later moved to San Francisco and formed Train with guitarist Jimmy Stafford and drummer Scott Underwood in 1994. The band gained popularity with hits such as "Meet Virginia," "Calling All Angels," and "Hey, Soul Sister."
In addition to his work with Train, Monahan has had a successful solo career. His debut studio album, "Last of Seven," was released in 2007 and reached number 82 on the US Billboard 200 chart. He has also written songs for other artists, including Sugarland's "Babe" and Taylor Swift's re-recorded version of the same song.
Monahan has been married twice. His first marriage, to teacher Ginean Rapp, ended in divorce in 2006. They have two children, Patrick and Emelia. In 2004, Monahan married Amber Peterson, and they have two children, Autumn and Rock Richard. They currently live in Issaquah, Washington.
Outside of music, Monahan has appeared on television shows and hosted the game show, I Can See Your Voice. In 2021, he starred in and produced the Hallmark Channel film "Christmas in Tahoe," based on Train's album of the same name.
Throughout his career, Monahan has received numerous awards, including Grammy Awards and Billboard Music Awards. He values his family above all else and often incorporates his experiences as a husband and father into his music.
