Dale Murray | Speaker Biography

Dale Albert Murray, born on February 2, 1950, in Cuero, Texas, is a former Major League Baseball pitcher who played primarily for the Montreal Expos. He was drafted by the Montreal Expos in the eighteenth round of the 1970 Major League Baseball Draft from Blinn College in Brenham, Texas. Murray made his MLB debut on July 7, 1974, for the Montreal Expos and finished his career with the Texas Rangers in May 1985.

In his career, Murray appeared in 518 games, with a win-loss record of 53-50 and a 3.85 ERA. He struck out 400 batters and recorded 60 saves. Murray's best season statistically was in 1982, where he posted a 3.16 ERA and led the Blue Jays with 11 saves.

Murray was traded several times throughout his career, including to the New York Mets in 1978, where he helped stabilize their bullpen. He returned to the Montreal Expos in 1979 and became a key reliever for them until being released in 1980.

After retiring from baseball, Murray has been involved in music, serving as a guitarist and vocalist for the indie rock band Cuff the Duke and releasing solo material.
