BlogLoginGet in TouchDr Eleanor Drage is a Research Fellow at the University of Cambridge Centre for the Future of Intelligence. Specialising in using feminist ideas to make AI better, she is the co-host of the Good Robot podcast.
Eleanor is a Research Fellow at the University of Cambridge Centre for the Future of Intelligence, and teaches AI professionals about AI ethics on a Masters course at Cambridge, where she believes in using feminist ideas to make AI better and safer for everyone. She does lots of research work on 'scary' new tools and inequality in AI: she has spoken on Radio 3 about the UK government and Met Office's use of AI to track and shut down protests in the UK. Her work on AI-powered video hiring tools and gendered representations of AI scientists in film was covered by the BBC, Forbes, the Guardian and international news outlets.
As host of the Good Robot Podcast, Eleanor interviews top scholars and technologists about AI ethics. She is also a TikToker for Carole Cadwalladr's group of investigative journalists, 'The Citizens'. She is the co-editor of The Good Robot: Feminist Voices on the Future of Technology, and Feminist AI: Critical Perspectives on Algorithms, Data and Intelligent Machines. Eleanor has also presented findings to a range of audiences including the United Nations, NatWest, The Open Data Institute (ODI), the AI World Congress and the Institute of Science & Technology.
For millennia, humanity has sought truth through technology: from tarot cards and microscopes to photographs and fingerprinting. The assumption that the more ‘advanced’ our technologies get, the better we understand the world, has led people to believe that AI is omniscient. This presentation debunks this myth, offering a realistic understanding of what AI is and what it can do. From Descartes and Da Vinci to AI-powered hiring tools and the MET police’s event detection systems, I offer a broader and more accurate understanding of the opportunities and challenges we face with AI in 2024 and beyond.
Can only personal data be debiased? No! Can you 'balance bias' ? No! Dr Eleanor Drage tackles the myths about AI and challenges the way we currently think about 'bias'.
The words feminist AI might conjure up images of pink robots, but in this presentation I show how feminist ideas about consent, objectivity and the good life are transforming how we build AI.
Eleanor gives an overview of how AI is affecting your life and work right now, and debunks some common myths about AI. From Prometheus and human augmentation to task automation and social justice, Eleanor explores how AI is making us rethink our own humanity.
