Gonzalo Delacámara is a senior economist with 28 years of experience across more than 80 countries. He serves as the Director of the Centre of Water & Climate Adaptation at IE University and focuses on the economic management of natural resources in relation to development.
Gonzalo is known for his innovative perspectives on natural resource economics, sustainability, and climate change, highlighting the management of complexity and uncertainty. He provides insights on sustainable practices and the significance of responsible investments.
He has advised various multilateral organisations, including the European Commission, the European Parliament, the UN, the World Bank, and the Inter-American Development Bank. Gonzalo is the Vice President of Water Europe and a Director on the Board of the International Desalination Association. He also teaches at the university level and has authored numerous books and scientific publications. Additionally, he is a member of the EU Platform on Sustainable Finance.
Gonzalo has worked extensively in regions such as the EU, Latin America, the Caribbean, the Middle East, North Africa, and Asia, specialising in the economic management of resources like water, climate, energy, and biodiversity. He is a Senior Research Fellow and Head of the Department of Water Economics at IMDEA Water Institute in Madrid. As the Academic Director of the Water Economics Forum, he engages in public debates with Nobel Laureates in Economics and Peace. He also advises the European Commission on water policy and the European Parliament on climate change policy, among other roles. Recently, he was appointed as Ambassador of Water Europe and serves on various scientific and advisory boards. He is also a mentor for international programmes supporting female researchers and frequently speaks at global events.
