James Naughtie | Speaker Biography

James Naughtie (born 1951) is a Scottish journalist, author, and radio presenter. He began his journalism career in the late 1970s, working for various newspapers before joining the BBC in 1982. Naughtie worked on the Today programme on BBC Radio 4 as a presenter from 1994 to 2015. He also held positions as a special correspondent and books editor during his time at the BBC.

Naughtie has received several awards for his journalistic work, including the 1984 Press Award for the Glasgow Herald. He is also an author, with books such as "Paris Spring" published by Head of Zeus in 2016. Naughtie has been involved in other projects, including serving as a fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh.

In December 2010, Naughtie caused controversy when he accidentally referred to Jeremy Hunt as "Jeremy C" on air, resulting in disciplinary action by the BBC. Despite this incident, Naughtie continued to contribute to the media landscape until his departure from the Today programme in July 2015.
