Michael Gove was the Conservative MP for Surrey Heath from 2005 to 2024. He held the position of Secretary of State for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities and Minister for Intergovernmental Relations from 2022 to 2024. Prior to this, he was Shadow Minister for Housing from 2005 to 2007 and Shadow Secretary of State for Children, Schools and Families from 2007 to 2010.
Michael served as Secretary of State for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities from September 2021 to July 2022. He was Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster from July 2019 to September 2021 and Minister for the Cabinet Office from February 2020 to September 2021. He was Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs from June 2017 to July 2019.
From May 2010 to July 2014, he was Secretary of State for Education. He then served as Government Chief Whip and Parliamentary Secretary to the Treasury from July 2014 to May 2015. Gove was also Lord Chancellor and Secretary of State for Justice from May 2015 to July 2016.
Before entering politics, Michael worked as a journalist. He began his career as a reporter for The Press and Journal in Aberdeen, then worked as a researcher and reporter at Scottish Television, and later as a reporter for BBC Television. He eventually became Assistant Editor of The Times.
