Alex Edmans is a British academic and economist. He is currently a Professor of Finance at London Business School and an Emeritus Professor of Business at Gresham College. He studied Economics and Management at Merton College, University of Oxford, and earned a PhD in Financial Economics from MIT. Alex began his career at Morgan Stanley, working in investment banking in London and fixed income sales and trading in New York. In 2007, he joined The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania as an Assistant Professor of Finance and became a tenured Associate Professor in 2013. He moved to London Business School in 2013, where he is now a full professor and the Academic Director of the LBS Centre for Corporate Governance. From 2018 to 2022, he held a professorship at Gresham College, giving public lectures on finance and business. His research focuses on corporate finance, responsible business, and behavioral finance, with publications in top journals like the American Economic Review and the Journal of Finance. Alex served as Managing Editor of the Review of Finance from 2017 to 2022. He has written several books, including "Grow the Pie: How Great Companies Deliver Both Purpose and Profit," which won an award for Excellence in Sustainable Finance Education, and his latest book, "May Contain Lies," published in April 2024. Alex has received many awards for his teaching and research, including being named Professor of the Year by Poets & Quants in 2021. He is active in public discussions, having delivered TED talks that have gained over 2.8 million views. He holds various professional roles, including Non-Executive Director of The Investor Forum and participation in the World Economic Forum’s Global Future Council. Alex is a well-known figure in finance, recognized for his insights into corporate governance and responsible business practices.
