Amy Goldstein | Speaker Biography

Amy Goldstein is a journalist who has focused her career on investigative reporting and writing for The Washington Post. With thirty years of experience, she is highly respected in the field of social policy.

After earning her Bachelor's degree in American Civilization from Brown University, Goldstein began her journalism career at The Baltimore Sun. She later worked at The Ledger-Star and The Virginian-Pilot in Norfolk, Virginia. In 1987, she joined The Washington Post as a local education writer and regional healthcare reporter.

Goldstein's focus shifted to national social policy issues over time. She covered health care debates in Congress, the White House, and federal agencies, examining the evolution of the health care system in the United States. During George W. Bush's presidency, she served as a White House correspondent, concentrating on domestic issues such as Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security, welfare, housing, government regulation, and the federal judiciary.

In her current role, Goldstein continues to explore social policy matters, particularly the changing boundaries between the public and private sectors. She has contributed significantly to The Washington Post's coverage of major news events, including the Monica Lewinsky scandal, the impeachment of President Bill Clinton, the Columbine school shootings, the aftermath of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, early casualties in the Iraq war, recent Supreme Court nominations, and various Washington dramas, including the criminal trial of a senior White House aide.

Goldstein's dedication and expertise have earned her numerous accolades throughout her career. She was part of a team of Post reporters that received the 2002 Pulitzer Prize for National Reporting for their coverage of the 9/11 attacks and the government's response. Additionally, she spent the 2004-05 academic year as a Nieman Fellow at Harvard University.
