Chrissie Wellington | Speaker Biography

Chrissie Wellington is an English triathlete and former professional cyclist. Born on January 15, 1976 in Lincolnshire, England, she grew up in a family that encouraged her love of outdoor activities. Her father was a keen runner, and her mother was a swimmer and cyclist.

Wellington began her career in cycling and won the British National Road Race Championship in 2002. However, after being hit by a car while training, she switched to triathlon due to its lower risk of injury. This decision proved successful, as she quickly rose through the ranks of the sport.

In 2008, Wellington became the first woman to win the Ironman World Championship three times consecutively. She also set the women's course record at the event, which stood for 10 years until it was broken by Daniela Ryf. Wellington has won numerous other triathlon races, including the Challenge Roth (twice), Challenge Almere, and Challenge Bahrain. Her achievements have earned her a place in the Triathlon Hall of Fame.

Wellington retired from professional racing in 2013 but continues to be involved in the sport as an ambassador and coach. Her autobiography, "A Life Without Limits," details her journey from a childhood spent on a farm in Lincolnshire to becoming one of the world's top endurance athletes.

Outside of sports, Wellington is a patron of the charity "When You Wish Upon a Star," which grants wishes to children with life-threatening illnesses. She has also worked with the British Heart Foundation and the National Autistic Society.

In summary, Chrissie Wellington is a highly accomplished triathlete and former cyclist. Her resilience and determination have made her a role model for many, both within and outside the world of sports.
