Conrad Wolfram is a pioneering technologist, physicist, and mathematician who has greatly influenced data and innovation at Wolfram Research. He was educated in the UK and earned an MA in physics and mathematics from the University of Cambridge. As the younger brother of Stephen, the founder of Wolfram Research, Conrad established the European branch of the company in 1991 and has been its CEO since then. In 1997, he became the strategic director for the global group, overseeing business, marketing, design, and various technical projects, including the Computable Document Format (CDF) and webMathematica. Conrad has played a key role in advancing computation, mathematics, and knowledge, especially through the automation and interactivity of technical computing. He has worked to make math education more relevant to real-world applications and advocates for a shift in how math is taught. In 2010, he founded computerbasedmath.org to address the gap between traditional math education and its practical uses. This initiative aims to modernize the STEM and coding curriculum by incorporating computer-based learning. His advocacy has gained recognition, including a TED talk in 2010. In 2020, Conrad published "The Math(s) Fix: An Education Blueprint for the AI Age," which discusses the crisis in math education and proposes a new subject to address the issue. He remains an influential speaker on the future of big data and education reform, focusing on the evolving skills needed in the knowledge economy. In his personal life, Conrad enjoys photography and playing the piano. As the strategic director and European co-founder/CEO of the Wolfram group, he continues to drive the development of technologies like Wolfram|Alpha and Mathematica, shaping the future of data and innovation while advocating for a modern approach to math education.
