Curtly Ambrose | Speaker Biography

Sir Curtly Ambrose, a cricketing legend from the West Indies, is widely hailed as the greatest fast bowler in the history of the sport. Throughout his illustrious career, he played in 98 Test matches, taking an astounding 405 wickets at an average of 20.99. His exceptional performance consistently placed him at the top of the ICC Player Rankings.

Standing tall at an impressive height of 6 feet 7 inches, Ambrose possessed the remarkable ability to generate incredible bounce off the wicket. Combined with his blistering pace and pinpoint accuracy, he proved to be an intimidating adversary for batsmen. Two particular bowling spells stand out among his many outstanding performances: the first, in 1993, where he took an astonishing seven wickets for just one run against Australia, and the second, in Trinidad, where he claimed 6 for 24 against England.

As his career progressed and he began to lose some of his pace, Ambrose relied on his mastery of subtle seam movement and his impeccable bowling action to continue taking wickets. Despite facing injuries towards the end of his career, Ambrose's iconic hand-jiving celebration remained a familiar sight until his retirement in 2000.

Recognizing his exceptional contributions to the game, Ambrose was inducted into the ICC's Hall of Fame and selected for the West Indies all-time XI. In 2014, he was honored with the Knight Commander of the Order of the Nation title by the Antiguan Barbudan government.

Since retiring, Ambrose has explored various endeavors, including a career in music, working as a pundit and consultant for the West Indies, and establishing himself as a highly respected after-dinner speaker. His captivating stories and insights into his journey as the greatest fast bowler of all time have made him a sought-after addition to any event.
