Fred MacAulay is a prominent Scottish comedian and broadcaster. He hosted the popular BBC Radio Scotland show MacAulay and Co. for nearly 18 years and has made numerous television appearances. His sharp wit and reputation stem from extensive experience in live comedy, including being the first Scottish compere at the Comedy Store in London. Fred entered stand-up comedy in the early 1990s and has since become a regular at the Edinburgh Fringe, marking his 29th appearance this year and at comedy festivals globally. He has featured on various Radio 4 comedy panel shows, such as I’m Sorry I Haven’t a Clue, Just A Minute, The Unbelievable Truth, and The News Quiz, which have helped draw audiences to his live tours. He has hosted and presented several programmes for BBC Scotland, including McCoist and MacAulay, Life According to Fred, Hoots, Simply Fred, and Scots on the Box. In 2014, he co-hosted the On The Road magazine programme with Martell Maxwell. On national BBC Television, he has appeared as a panellist on Mock the Week, QI, and Have I Got News For You. In the US, he was a guest on The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson, and his performance at The Montreal Comedy Festival was broadcast across North America. Fred participated in seven nights in Comic Relief Does Fame Academy, and undertook charity challenges such as kayaking the Caledonian Canal and climbing Mt Kilimanjaro. His West Highland Way-Hey walk aired on STV on Hogmanay 2012. Before his comedy career, he studied at the University of Dundee, earning an MA in Accountancy and Jurisprudence. He received an honorary doctorate (LLD) from the same university in 2006. Fred is married with three adult children and is a sought-after after-dinner speaker and awards presenter, having worked in various countries, including Australia, Hong Kong, and the US.
