Gavin Patterson served as Chief Executive of BT from 2013 to 2019. BT is a global communications services company that combines networks, technology, and expertise to help businesses grow, communities thrive, and individuals enjoy a better life. During his time as CEO, Patterson oversaw the expansion of superfast fibre broadband, which now has almost universal coverage. He also spearheaded the deployment of ultrafast fibre-to-the-home technology. In addition, he orchestrated the £15 billion acquisition of EE, which positioned BT as the leading converged communications provider in the UK. Patterson played a key role in BT's entry into content with the successful launch of BT Sport. He also led the development of BT's market-leading cyber security practice and championed the company's social purpose agenda, focusing on sustainability, volunteering, and tech literacy in schools. Patterson served as a group board director for 11 years and joined BT in 2004 as Group Managing Director Consumer before being promoted to CEO BT Retail in 2008. Prior to his tenure at BT, Patterson held various positions, including Managing Director Consumer Division at Virgin Media and European Marketing Director at Procter and Gamble. He has served on the advisory board of the Cambridge University Judge Business School and was President of the Advertising Association. As BT Chief Executive, Patterson co-chaired the UK Government's Cyber Partnership and was a member of various business councils and committees. Currently, he is a Non-Executive Director at British Airways plc, a Trustee of the British Museum, a board member of the charity Movement to Work, a Vice President of the Royal Television Society, and a fellow of the Institute of Telecommunications Professionals. Patterson holds a Masters degree in Chemical Engineering from Cambridge University and is married with four children.
