Gurcharan Das | Speaker Biography

Gurcharan Das is an author, commentator, and former executive with a successful career in business and literature. Born in Lyallpur, British India (now Faisalabad, Pakistan), Das was influenced by his father's passion for spirituality and meditation. He studied at Harvard University, graduating with honors in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics.

After his studies, Das began his corporate career as a trainee in a company that manufactured Vick Vaporub. He was drawn to the dynamic nature of business and steadily climbed the ranks, eventually becoming the managing director and chairman of Richardson Hindustan Limited. In 1985, Procter & Gamble acquired his parent company, leading to his appointment as the first CEO of Procter & Gamble India and vice president of Procter & Gamble Worldwide, responsible for global strategic planning.

At 50, Das retired early to focus on writing. He has authored several books, including "India Unbound," which provides a personal account of India's recent social and economic rise, and "The Difficulty of Being Good," which explores moral dilemmas in business and politics. His work has been globally recognized, with translations into multiple languages and adaptations for film and stage.

In addition to his writing, Das remains involved in public life. He serves on various boards and regularly speaks to large corporations worldwide. His insights are sought after on topics such as corporate strategy, leadership, and economic reforms, particularly in relation to India's future.
