Jason Robinson's biography

At a glance

  • First Black British Captain Of England Rugby
  • 2003 Rugby Union World Cup Winner
  • Founder Of The Jason Robinson Foundation

Jason Robinson OBE is one of the most accomplished and recognisable figures in British rugby, having reached the top in both rugby league and rugby union. His career includes three World Cup finals, scoring England’s only try in the 2003 Rugby Union World Cup Final, and making history as the first Black British man to captain the England rugby team. His speed, agility and trademark side-step earned him a reputation as one of the most formidable players in either code. Growing up in a deprived part of Leeds, Jason overcame significant personal challenges to forge his path to the pinnacle of world sport.

Talent spotted while playing for Hunslet Boys Club, he began his professional career with Wigan in rugby league, scoring 171 tries in 281 games and representing England, Great Britain and the British Lions. In 2000, he switched to rugby union with Sale Sharks, where he played 159 games, scored 248 points, and captained the side during one of the most successful periods in the club’s history. His England career included 51 caps, 28 tries and a leadership role that cemented his legacy. Recognised with an MBE in 2003 and an OBE in 2008 for his services to rugby, Jason’s influence extends far beyond the pitch.

Motivated to give back, he founded the Jason Robinson Foundation to help young people realise their potential through sport and positive mentorship. The foundation works with inspirational coaches and volunteers to support young people nationwide. Jason’s personal journey from one of the most deprived areas in the UK to World Cup glory shapes his message of resilience, equality and opportunity. Through his speaking work and foundation, he inspires others to believe that, with the right guidance and support, extraordinary achievements are possible.

Gambit Partners

The event with Jason was amazing! It has been one of our best-attended events with over 150 in-house and online. The feedback has been incredible after the event; I don’t think anyone left the session not being impacted.

Mizuho

[Jason] was a brilliant speaker - really engaging and able to capture the audience’s full attention from the start. His story was incredibly inspirational and resonated with so many people in the room. He was also an absolute pleasure to work with. Before the talk, he kindly signed autographs, and afterward he stayed on to chat and take photos. It meant a lot to the guests, and you could see how much it lifted the room.

Something we've not covered here?

How do I book Jason Robinson for my next event?

Email jason.robinson@getapeptalk.com or call PepTalk on +44 20 3835 2929 (UK) or +1 737 888 5112 (US), and one of our speaker agents will contact you within hours to confirm Jason's availability and fees. If you can, please include your budget upfront – it helps us fast-track your request. It’s also helpful to know the date, format (virtual or in-person), location, and a bit about your audience.

What is Jason Robinson's speaking style like?

Jason Robinson OBE draws on his personal journey from a deprived area of Leeds to World Cup winner to structure his talks around themes of resilience, equality and opportunity, grounding his message in the lived experience of overcoming adversity through sport and mentorship.

What topics does Jason Robinson specialise in?

Jason Robinson OBE speaks on high performance, resilience, social mobility, diversity and inclusion, and effective leadership. He captained England rugby as the first Black British man to hold that role, won the 2003 Rugby Union World Cup, and founded the Jason Robinson Foundation supporting young people through sport and mentorship.

Does PepTalk charge a booking fee?

No. PepTalk adds no booking fee, so you pay the speaker's fee and nothing beyond it. The service, from shortlist through to contracts and event-day logistics, is included. For repeat or multi-event bookings, PepTalk can agree preferential rates with your procurement team.

What happens after I send a brief?

Share your event date, audience, format, objectives and budget, and PepTalk sends a hand-picked shortlist within 24 hours. Each suggestion comes with a profile, a fee and a recommendation on the strongest fit. Once you choose, PepTalk handles contracts, travel and logistics through to event day.

What does the typical fee range mean?

The typical fee range is the speaker's standard in-person fee in their home market, shown in their local currency. It moves with format, location, date and session length: virtual sessions and shorter slots usually cost less, while international travel and peak dates cost more. Send your brief to PepTalk and the team will confirm the exact fee in your currency.

Have all the speakers on the website worked with PepTalk before?

Not all of them, and it makes no difference to your booking. PepTalk's network of 15,000+ speakers covers talent the team works with directly alongside speakers represented by agents and agencies worldwide. PepTalk approaches the speaker, negotiates the fee and handles contracting either way.

How far in advance should I book a speaker?

Three to six months ahead is comfortable for most events, and 12 months is better for large conferences, peak-season dates or one specific in-demand speaker. Shorter timelines are workable, and PepTalk regularly fills last-minute and replacement bookings within days. Availability is the constraint, so get in touch as soon as you have a date.
