Prince Kofi Amoabeng is a Ghanaian businessman and former military officer. He started his education at Penworth Preparatory School in Accra, then attended St. Peter’s Senior High School and Adisadel College. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Administration from the University of Ghana Business School in 1975.
Amoabeng joined the Ghana Armed Forces in April 1975 and became a lieutenant later that year. He received a scholarship to train as an accountant at the Royal Army Pay Corps, qualifying in 18 months before returning to Ghana.
In 1997, he co-founded Unique Trust Financial Services (UT Financial Services) with Joseph Nsonamoah, which later became UT Holdings, including various subsidiaries like UT Bank. Under his leadership, the company grew to over 1,000 employees and 26 branches in Ghana, with operations in Nigeria, Germany, and South Africa. Amoabeng has received many awards for his contributions to entrepreneurship, including the Lifetime Achievement for Innovation in Africa in 2013 and Ghana’s Most Respected CEO multiple times.
However, his career has faced challenges, particularly allegations of embezzlement from UT Bank. Although the initial charges were dropped, he is still involved in ongoing legal battles after his arrest in January 2020.
Amoabeng advocates for values-based leadership, focusing on integrity and respect. Through the PK Amoabeng Leadership Foundation, he promotes principled leadership in Africa. His career shows significant entrepreneurial success and leadership recognition, along with controversies related to the collapse of UT Bank and financial mismanagement allegations. Despite these issues, his legacy continues to impact discussions on leadership and entrepreneurship in Africa.
