Stephen K. Amos is a prominent British comedian, television personality, and advocate for LGBTQ+ rights. He began his comedy career in the early 2000s as a compere at the Big Fish comedy clubs in South London, quickly establishing himself as a notable figure in the industry. Amos has been a regular performer at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe since 2001, showcasing his talent and versatility. His solo show, "All of Me," performed in 2006, marked a significant moment as he publicly acknowledged his homosexuality, fostering open dialogue about identity and sexuality in comedy. Amos has appeared in various television shows, including "EastEnders," "Live at the Apollo," "Royal Variety Performance," "Mock the Week," "Have I Got News For You," and "QI." He also starred in "The Stephen K Amos Show" and voiced characters in "Tinga Tinga Tales." In addition to his television work, Amos has released two comedy DVDs, "Find the Funny" and "The Feelgood Factor," and authored a memoir titled "I Used To Say My Mother Was Shirley Bassey," which reflects on his life experiences. He is known for his advocacy for LGBTQ+ rights and has performed at Pride events, promoting inclusivity and acceptance. In 2019, he participated in the Via Francigena pilgrimage for BBC's "Pilgrimage," sharing his experiences as a gay man and receiving a response from Pope Francis. Amos continues to tour internationally with shows like "Oxymoron" and "Before and Laughter." His recent appearance on the Australian version of "I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here!" in 2024 further cements his status as a global comedic icon.
