Tim Steiner is a British businessman best known as the co-founder and CEO of Ocado, a leading online grocery and technology company.
He was educated at Haberdashers' Boys’ School and studied Economics at the University of Manchester. Coming from a middle-class family with entrepreneurial roots, his great-grandfather founded Steiner Leisure.
Tim began his career in 1992 as a bond trader at Goldman Sachs, where he held various roles, including head of non-US dollar Eurobond trading and head of Asian credit trading. During his time at Goldman Sachs, he met Jason, who would later become a co-founder of Ocado.
In 2000, Tim, Jason, and Jonathan left Goldman Sachs to establish Ocado, focusing on online grocery delivery. Despite early doubts, Ocado has grown significantly, achieving sales exceeding £1.7 billion in recent years. Tim's leadership has been key to this success, marked by his innovative approach and commitment to technology, including investments in robotics and smart platforms.
Tim was married and has four children; they divorced in 2016. He is also known for his philanthropic efforts, including a donation to the Conservative Party during the 2019 general election.
Recognised for his entrepreneurial spirit, Tim was awarded an OBE for his services to business. His drive has earned him accolades, including the Clarity Retail Leader of the Year award. Despite challenges such as competition and the COVID-19 pandemic, he remains confident in Ocado's future, focusing on innovation and efficiency to propel the company forward.
