July 2027 pairs Disability Pride Month with Plastic Free July, which gives organisations two very different campaigns to run alongside each other, one about access and one about behaviour change. Nelson Mandela International Day on 18 July and the ADA anniversary on 26 July give the month two strong anchor dates for a single session.

Sport is the busiest it has been in a British July for years. The Tour de France starts in Edinburgh on 2 July, the first Grand Départ to cover Scotland, England and Wales. Wimbledon reaches its finals in the second week, the Open returns to St Andrews, the men's and women's Ashes run through the month, and the FIFA Women's World Cup final is played at the Maracanã on 25 July. Here's PepTalk's guide to the cultural highlights of July 2027.

July 2027 – Month-long Observances

  • Disability Pride Month (US) | July 2027 Celebrates disability culture, visibility and rights, anchored to the signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act in July 1990. Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson is one of PepTalk's most-booked speakers for the month, and our disability awareness speakers page has more options.
  • Plastic Free July | July 2027 A global campaign run by the Plastic Free Foundation, encouraging people and organisations to cut single-use plastics for the month. See PepTalk's sustainability speakers.
  • Dry July (Australia) | July 2027 An alcohol-free month raising funds for cancer support services.
  • Sarcoma Awareness Month | July 2027 Raises awareness of a group of rare cancers that are frequently diagnosed late.

July 2027 – Key Dates

  • International Day of Cooperatives | 3 July 2027 A UN day marked on the first Saturday of July, recognising cooperative enterprise.
  • Independence Day (US) | 4 July 2027 The federal holiday marking the Declaration of Independence in 1776. It falls on a Sunday in 2027, so the holiday is observed on Monday 5 July.
  • World Population Day | 11 July 2027 A UN day on population, family planning and sustainability.
  • Bastille Day (France) | 14 July 2027 France's national day, marked with parades and fireworks.
  • International Non-Binary People's Day | 14 July 2027 A community-led day recognising non-binary people, deliberately set midway between International Women's Day and International Men's Day.
  • World Youth Skills Day | 15 July 2027 A UN day on equipping young people with employable skills.
  • World Emoji Day | 17 July 2027 A light one, and reliably good for internal comms and social.
  • Nelson Mandela International Day | 18 July 2027 Honours Mandela's legacy, with the invitation to give 67 minutes of service for his 67 years of activism. One of the easiest days in the calendar to turn into a genuine volunteering activity.
  • World Chess Day | 20 July 2027 Marks the founding of the International Chess Federation in 1924.
  • Samaritans Awareness Day (UK) | 24 July 2027 The 24/7 date anchoring Samaritans' awareness week, focused on the value of listening. PepTalk's mental health speakers page has options for sessions on the same theme.
  • ADA anniversary | 26 July 2027 The 37th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act, and the focal point of Disability Pride Month.
  • World Hepatitis Day | 28 July 2027 A WHO day on prevention, testing and treatment.
  • International Day of Friendship | 30 July 2027 Promotes friendship between people, cultures and nations. It shares the date with the World Day against Trafficking in Persons.

July 2027 – Sporting Highlights

  • Tour de France | 2–25 July 2027 The Grand Départ is in Edinburgh on 2 July, the first time the Tour has covered Scotland, England and Wales. Stage one runs Edinburgh to Carlisle, stage two Keswick to Liverpool on 3 July, and stage three Welshpool to Cardiff on 4 July, the first Tour stage ever held in Wales. The race finishes in Paris on 25 July.
  • Men's Ashes | throughout July 2027 The second Test runs at Lord's from 30 June to 4 July, the third at Edgbaston 8–12 July, and the fourth at the Utilita Bowl in Southampton 21–25 July. The women's Ashes runs alongside it, with T20 internationals on 3, 6 and 9 July and one-day internationals on 13, 16 and 20 July.
  • Wimbledon finals | 10 and 11 July 2027 The ladies' singles final is on Saturday 10 July and the gentlemen's on Sunday 11 July, closing the Championships at the All England Club.
  • MLB All-Star Game | 13 July 2027 Baseball's midsummer showcase at Wrigley Field in Chicago.
  • The Open Championship | 15–18 July 2027 The 155th Open returns to the Old Course at St Andrews.
  • FIFA Women's World Cup Final | 25 July 2027 The tournament closes at the Estádio do Maracanã in Rio de Janeiro after a month in Brazil.
  • Tour de France Femmes | from 30 July 2027 Another British Grand Départ, opening with Leeds to Manchester on 30 July and Manchester to Sheffield on 31 July, before a team time trial finishing on The Mall in London on 1 August.
  • Formula One | July 2027 (to be confirmed) The 2027 F1 calendar had not been published at the time of writing. A British Grand Prix at Silverstone in early July is expected, though Silverstone had not confirmed a date, so treat circulating dates as provisional.

Note that there are no Commonwealth Games and no Olympic Games in 2027. Glasgow hosted the Commonwealth Games in 2026 and the next edition is Ahmedabad in 2030. The World Athletics Championships are in September 2027, in Beijing, rather than in the summer window.

Book a speaker for July's awareness days

Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson is the strongest fit for Disability Pride Month and the ADA anniversary. An eleven-time Paralympic gold medallist who now sits in the House of Lords, she speaks on disability rights and on changing systems from inside them, which gives organisations something more useful than a box-ticking session.

Alice Dearing suits a July built around the Women's World Cup and the Ashes. The Team GB Olympic swimmer and co-founder of the Black Swimming Association speaks on representation and access in sport, and on the work still needed to make elite competition genuinely open.

Gareth Thomas CBE carries well into July for organisations extending Pride programming past June. He speaks on coming out in professional sport, living publicly with HIV, and the role of vulnerability in leadership.

Frequently Asked Questions

What awareness days are recognised in July?

July carries Disability Pride Month, Plastic Free July and Sarcoma Awareness Month, alongside fixed dates including the International Day of Cooperatives, World Population Day, International Non-Binary People's Day, World Youth Skills Day, Nelson Mandela International Day, Samaritans Awareness Day, the ADA anniversary, World Hepatitis Day and the International Day of Friendship.

Where does the Tour de France start in 2027?

Edinburgh, on 2 July 2027. It's the first Grand Départ to take in Scotland, England and Wales, with stages finishing in Carlisle, Liverpool and Cardiff before the race crosses to France. The Tour de France Femmes also starts in Britain, in Leeds on 30 July.

How far in advance should we book a speaker for a July awareness day?

Six to eight weeks for most July dates, which leaves time to brief the speaker properly and promote the session internally. Disability Pride Month is the exception and books earlier, since demand overlaps with the tail of Pride.

Can PepTalk find a speaker for a date not listed here?
