Baroness Tanni Grey Thompson is widely regarded as Britain's greatest Paralympic athlete. Over the course of her career, she competed in five Paralympic Games and achieved an impressive record of 11 gold medals, 4 silvers, and 1 bronze. She is recognized as one of the most talented and courageous sportswomen of her generation.
In addition to her remarkable success in the Paralympics, Tanni also dominated the London Wheelchair Marathon, winning it six times between 1992 and 2002. Even in retirement, she remains highly active and continues to make significant contributions to public life.
In 2005, Tanni was honoured with the title of 'Dame Tanni Grey-Thompson DBE for her exceptional services to sport. Five years later, she was appointed to the House of Lords as a crossbench peer. Her expertise and focus include sport, disability, health, welfare, and youth development.
Tanni has played a pivotal role in various debates, including those related to welfare reform, assisted dying, and sports governance. Tanni holds several esteemed positions, such as Non-Executive Director of the BBC, board member of TfL, Chair of ukactive, Chancellor of Northumbria University, and President of the National Council of Voluntary Organisations. She also serves as an ambassador for UNICEF, the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation, and the sport for social change movement, Beyond Sport.
Furthermore, Tanni is widely recognized as an authoritative figure on disability sporting issues. She is an integral part of the BBC's Paralympic coverage team and frequently appears as a television and radio broadcast journalist. Recently, she was honored with the Lifetime Achievement award at the BBC's Sports Personality of the Year show.
