Conn Bertish's biography

At a glance

  • Award-winning creative strategist turned resilience expert
  • Brain cancer survivor and former big wave surfer
  • Launched Cancer Dojo app, backed by oncologists and scientists

Conn Bertish is a South African adventurer, resilience trainer, and brain cancer survivor who uses lived experience and behavioural science to help people and organisations adapt under pressure. A former Chief Creative Officer and Red Bull big wave surfer, Conn survived a brain cancer diagnosis in his 30s. He gamified his own recovery, earning the support of leading oncologists and science professors, and launched the award-winning Cancer Dojo resilience app, now used by patients worldwide.

He later became the first person with hemiplegia to paddle unsupported across the Atlantic Ocean. During the 93-day expedition, he endured severe storms, isolation, equipment failures, and physical limitations that tested both preparation and mental endurance. Drawing on survival psychology and neuroscience research, Conn shows audiences how to reframe adversity, build cognitive agility and develop resilience that holds up in real-world conditions.

He has delivered keynotes and workshops to more than two million people across twenty countries, with clients including Google, Nestlé, Coca-Cola, and Standard Chartered Bank. Audiences leave with a concrete framework for managing stress and anxiety using creative reframing techniques, a practical understanding of how to shift fixed thinking toward an explorer mindset, and tools drawn from Conn's medically supported methodology that have already been validated across thousands of corporate and clinical settings. For teams navigating change, Conn delivers the kind of shift in perspective that sticks long after the room clears.

Something we've not covered here?

How do I book Conn Bertish for my next event?

Email conn.bertish@getapeptalk.com or call PepTalk on +44 20 3835 2929 (UK) or +1 737 888 5112 (US), and one of our speaker agents will contact you within hours to confirm Conn's availability and fees. If you can, please include your budget upfront – it helps us fast-track your request. It’s also helpful to know the date, format (virtual or in-person), location, and a bit about your audience.

What is Conn Bertish's speaking style like?

Conn Bertish structures his sessions around first-person expedition and survival narratives — including his 93-day solo Atlantic crossing with hemiplegia — which he uses as the vehicle for delivering a behavioural science framework. The framework draws on neuroscience research and his medically supported Cancer Dojo methodology to give audiences replicable tools for cognitive reframing and resilience under pressure.

What topics does Conn Bertish specialise in?

Conn Bertish speaks on purpose-driven innovation, creative leadership in crisis, and building resilient teams through collaboration. He is a former Chief Creative Officer and brain cancer survivor who became the first person with hemiplegia to paddle unsupported across the Atlantic Ocean, and whose Cancer Dojo resilience app is used by patients worldwide with the backing of leading oncologists.

Does PepTalk charge a booking fee?

No. PepTalk adds no booking fee, so you pay the speaker's fee and nothing beyond it. The service, from shortlist through to contracts and event-day logistics, is included. For repeat or multi-event bookings, PepTalk can agree preferential rates with your procurement team.

What happens after I send a brief?

Share your event date, audience, format, objectives and budget, and PepTalk sends a hand-picked shortlist within 24 hours. Each suggestion comes with a profile, a fee and a recommendation on the strongest fit. Once you choose, PepTalk handles contracts, travel and logistics through to event day.

What does the typical fee range mean?

The typical fee range is the speaker's standard in-person fee in their home market, shown in their local currency. It moves with format, location, date and session length: virtual sessions and shorter slots usually cost less, while international travel and peak dates cost more. Send your brief to PepTalk and the team will confirm the exact fee in your currency.

Have all the speakers on the website worked with PepTalk before?

Not all of them, and it makes no difference to your booking. PepTalk's network of 15,000+ speakers covers talent the team works with directly alongside speakers represented by agents and agencies worldwide. PepTalk approaches the speaker, negotiates the fee and handles contracting either way.

How far in advance should I book a speaker?

Three to six months ahead is comfortable for most events, and 12 months is better for large conferences, peak-season dates or one specific in-demand speaker. Shorter timelines are workable, and PepTalk regularly fills last-minute and replacement bookings within days. Availability is the constraint, so get in touch as soon as you have a date.
