Dave Henson joined the British Army in 2008 and underwent intense infantry and leadership training at the Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst. He then joined the Corps of Royal Engineers and was deployed to Afghanistan in 2010 as a Royal Engineer Search Advisor. Unfortunately, during a routine clearance patrol in February 2011, Dave lost both of his legs. He received medical care at the Royal Centre for Defence Medicine and the Defence Medical Rehabilitation Centre, Headley Court, where he used sport as part of his recovery. Dave excelled in track racing and represented Great Britain in various international competitions, including the Invictus Games and the Paralympic Games. He has also pursued his academic interests, earning a Masters' in Biomedical Engineering and currently working towards a PhD in Amputee Biomechanics. Dave is actively involved in various organizations and initiatives aimed at supporting veterans and improving the lives of amputees. He was recognized for his service with an MBE in 2014.
