Rose Genele is a leader and advocate for AI ethics known for her contributions to innovation and inclusion in the tech industry. She started her career as a social media and content coordinator at Vretta but quickly sought more impactful challenges. Initially interested in legal work, she transitioned to law, where she excelled before moving into entrepreneurship. Rose has a Bachelor of Commerce in Law and Business and a Certificate in Ethics, which guide her approach to responsible AI. Her analytical skills have been crucial in her shift from law to AI ethics and transformation. She founded The Opening Door, a consulting practice that helps organizations drive sustainable innovation. Rose is recognized for her work in AI ethics, advocating for transparency, fairness, explainability, and the elimination of bias in AI systems. She is committed to ensuring that technology aligns with human values and does not harm society or the environment. Her dedication to creating ethical companies has established her as a leader in the field. Her contributions have earned her several accolades, including a nomination for the 2024 RBC Canadian Women Entrepreneur Awards and recognition as one of Canada’s Top 100 Black Women to Watch in 2024. Rose is also a member of the International Society of Sustainability Professionals and serves on the board of the Canadian Centre for Ethics and Corporate Policy, as well as award-winning Volcano Productions. Currently, Rose is focused on expanding her practice to include responsible AI and sustainability, viewing organizations as ecosystems that balance safety and innovation. As a thought leader, she shares her insights on AI ethics through various platforms, including Digital Journal’s Insight Forum and the FuturePod podcast.
