Dilly Gent's biography

At a glance

  • Creative Director and Video Commissioner for Radiohead
  • Co-creator of 'From the Basement' music series
  • Producer for Radiohead's 'Meeting People is Easy' documentary
Dilly Gent is an exceptionally perceptive creative director with a talent for discovering and managing top-level creative talent. She possesses an innate ability to envision beyond the obvious and takes a holistic approach to media outreach, making her an invaluable guiding force. Dilly is highly regarded in the alternative/indie rock community and is a passionate advocate for the environment. In 1991, Dilly joined London's Parlophone Records, coinciding with the signing of Radiohead. Over the course of 17 years, she worked closely with the band as their creative director and video commissioner, overseeing a multitude of groundbreaking and iconic music videos. Additionally, she served as a producer on the band's Grammy-nominated documentary film, Meeting People is Easy, which captured their pivotal moment during the OK Computer era. Dilly's passion for capturing bands in authentic spaces led her to co-create the innovative television series, From the Basement, alongside Radiohead producer Nigel Godrich. This host-less show showcased the raw essence of the era's most prominent talents in a studio environment, featuring intimate performances by artists such as The White Stripes, PJ Harvey, Beck, and Thundercat, with a special focus on the execution of their craft. Motivated by a sense of guardianship inspired by her son Lok, Dilly has actively sought out projects that promote environmental protection. She played a pivotal role in the creation of 60 short films for Al Gore's ambitious Live Earth campaign, enlisting directors from around the world to offer their unique perspectives on the numerous challenges facing our planet. Currently based in Los Angeles, Dilly continues to bridge the gap between daring musicians and dynamic visual artists, working with both established icons and emerging game-changers like Phoebe Bridgers, Portugal. The Man, and many others. She founded Son & Heir to cater to a diverse range of projects, producing inspired and unconventional content for television programs, music videos, music documentaries, charity events, micro films, and forward-thinking brands seeking a striking visual identity.
