Hari Budha Magar MBE is a Guinness World Records-holder who became the first double above-knee amputee to summit Mount Everest in May 2023. He campaigns to change global perceptions about disability and what people with disabilities can achieve.
Born in a remote farming community in Nepal, Hari served for 15 years with the Royal Gurkha Rifles before losing both legs to an IED explosion while on patrol in Afghanistan in 2010. Following life-saving rehabilitation in the UK, he rebuilt his confidence through sport and mountaineering, later leading a successful legal challenge in Nepal’s Supreme Court to overturn a ban that prevented people with disabilities from climbing Everest. He has since climbed six of the Seven Summits and is on course to complete the final peak, Mount Vinson in Antarctica. To make these expeditions possible, Hari also helped design specialist prosthetics, heated sockets, and adaptive climbing equipment for extreme environments.
Hari’s journey is a compelling study in resilience, innovation, and leadership under pressure. Speaking with humility and authority, he explores how mindset shapes performance in the face of uncertainty, risk, and adversity. Drawing on experiences of depression, recovery, military leadership, and extreme endurance, he demonstrates how barriers are often psychological before they are physical, and how sustainable progress is built through persistence, adaptability, and purpose.
Audiences gain practical insight into building mental resilience, fostering innovation when no ready-made solutions exist, and shifting limiting beliefs within individuals and teams. His talks connect personal accountability with collective performance, showing how individual determination can drive lasting cultural and organisational change.
Book Hari to inspire your audience with one of the most remarkable stories of resilience, innovation, and human potential in modern exploration.
