Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage (AAPI) encompasses a broad group of people from the entire Asian continent and the Pacific islands of Melanesia, Micronesia, and Polynesia. This includes, but is not limited to, individuals with heritage from East Asia (such as China, Japan, and Korea), Southeast Asia (including the Philippines, Vietnam, and Thailand), South Asia (like India, Pakistan, and Bangladesh), as well as the Pacific Islands (such as Hawaii, Guam, Samoa, Fiji and Tonga). When is AAPI Heritage Month?

AAPI Heritage Month is celebrated in the United States in May. This month was chosen to commemorate the immigration of the first Japanese to the United States on May 7, 1843, and to mark the anniversary of the transcontinental railroad's completion on May 10, 1869, the majority of whose workers were Chinese immigrants.
