Andrew Wegman Bird is an American indie rock musician. Born in Chicago, Illinois, Bird studied violin performance at Northwestern University. He gained experience playing at various events and joined the swing-revival band the Squirrel Nut Zippers. In 1997, he formed his own swing ensemble, Andrew Bird's Bowl of Fire, releasing three albums. However, the band did not achieve widespread success, leading Bird to pursue a solo career.
Bird's solo career began in 2003 with the release of "Weather Systems," showcasing a shift towards a contemporary folk and pop-rock style. He gained recognition with "The Mysterious Production of Eggs" in 2005, receiving critical acclaim and expanding his fan base. "Armchair Apocrypha" in 2007 sold over 100,000 copies, a notable achievement for an independent release.
Throughout his career, Bird has released several studio albums, including "Noble Beast" in 2009, which debuted at number 12 on the Billboard album chart, and "Break It Yourself" in 2012, showcasing a more emotionally direct approach. He has also created instrumental records, such as "Echolocations: Canyons" (2015) and "Echolocations: River" (2017).
