Daniel Finkelstein is a prominent British journalist, political commentator, and former politician. He started his career in politics with the Social Democratic Party, serving as Chair of the Young Social Democrats and running as a parliamentary candidate in the 1987 general election.

In the late 1980s, Daniel switched to the Conservative Party and became Director of the Conservative Research Department, where he advised Prime Minister John Major and participated in Cabinet meetings to promote the party's modernization.

Before joining The Times, he was Director of the Social Market Foundation, focusing on public service reform, and served as Chairman of Policy Exchange, which advocates for free market solutions to public policy issues. His journalism career began as editor of Connexion, Britain's first Internet and data communications newspaper. He joined The Times in 2001, eventually becoming Comment Editor and Chief Leader Writer, and launched the Comment Central blog in 2006.

Daniel has received several awards for his journalism, including being named Political Commentator of the Year four times and Journalist of the Year in 2011 by the Political Studies Association. He was also awarded Journalist of the Year by the Royal Statistical Society in 2013 for his football statistics column, the Fink Tank.

In 2013, he became a member of the House of Lords. He currently serves as Associate Editor and weekly political columnist for The Times, chairs the centre-right think tank Onward, and is Vice President of the Jewish Leadership Council. Daniel is a familiar face on television programmes like Newsnight and Politics Live, and he is a sought-after speaker at various events. His extensive career highlights his significant contributions to British journalism and political discourse.
