Fu Ying is a well-known Chinese diplomat and politician, recognized for her long career in international relations and contributions to China's diplomacy. She graduated from Beijing Foreign Studies University and earned a master's degree in International Relations from the University of Kent. Fu started her diplomatic career in 1978 at China's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, working as an attaché in Romania until 1982. She held various roles in the Department of Translation and Interpretation and later in the Department of Asian Affairs. In 1992, she became China's first civilian UN peacekeeper in Cambodia. Fu has served as Ambassador to the Philippines, Minister Counselor in Indonesia, Ambassador to Australia, and Ambassador to the United Kingdom. She was Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs from 2010 to 2013, focusing on European and Asian affairs. In 2013, she was elected Chairperson of the Foreign Affairs Committee of China’s 12th National People’s Congress and later became Vice Chairperson of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the 13th NPC. Currently, Fu is the Director of the Center for Strategy and Security at Tsinghua University and chairs the Academic Committee of the National Institute for Global Strategy at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences. She is also a Specially Invited Vice Chairman of the China Center for International Economic Exchanges. In her book "Seeing the World," Fu emphasizes the importance of trust and dialogue in international relations, reflecting on China's rise as a global power and its role in global governance. Her career has made her a key figure in shaping China's foreign policy and its international engagement.
