Manuel Muñiz is an academic and expert in international relations known for his work in global governance, innovation, and diplomacy. He is the Provost of IE University and Chair of the Board of IE New York College. From 2015 to 2017, Manuel led the Program on Transatlantic Relations at Harvard's Weatherhead Center for International Affairs and taught about the geopolitical effects of populism at Tufts University. In 2016, Esglobal recognized him as one of the 25 intellectuals who had reshaped Ibero-American thought. He became a Senior Associate at Harvard's Belfer Center, focusing on Europe and the Transatlantic Relationship. In 2017, he became Dean of the School of Global and Public Affairs at IE University. He established the IE Centre for the Governance of Change to tackle challenges from rapid societal and technological changes.
In January 2020, the Spanish government appointed Manuel Secretary of State for Global Spain, where he worked on economic diplomacy during the COVID-19 pandemic. He coordinated Spain's Foreign Action Strategy 2021-2024 and contributed to the National Strategy on Technology and Global Order. He also played a significant role in the OECD's global mobility framework and was part of the Prime Minister's COVID-19 task force.
In June 2023, Manuel was elected President of the Association of Professional Schools of International Affairs and became a Senior Fellow in the Foreign Policy program at Brookings. He holds a JD from Complutense University, an MSc in Financial Markets from IEB, a Master in Public Administration from the Kennedy School, and a DPhil in International Relations from the University of Oxford. He has received several awards, including the Trilateral Commission’s David Rockefeller Fellowship.
