Martin Vander Weyer is a well-known British financial journalist and the business editor of The Spectator. He comes from Yorkshire and has Flemish roots. His father was a notable banker.
Vander Weyer started his career in investment banking, working for 15 years at Schroders and Barclays in various cities, including London and Tokyo. He was involved in privatisation in Eastern Europe and served as a director at Barclays de Zoete Wedd.
He later moved into journalism and became a key voice in financial reporting. As the business editor and columnist for The Spectator, he provides insightful commentary on business and markets. He also writes for the Daily Telegraph, Sunday Telegraph, Daily Mail, and other national publications, having previously been the City editor at The Week.
Vander Weyer has written several books that discuss business ethics and the financial landscape. He has been an Academic Visitor at St Antony’s College, Oxford, and a Visiting Research Fellow at York University Management School. He has chaired debates at the York Union and is involved with the LSE Business History Unit. He has also been a trustee of Helmsley Arts Centre and a former trustee of Opera North.
