BlogLoginGet in TouchBecause I said I would is a nonprofit organization and social movement that focuses on the profound impact of promises. Founded by Alex Sheen, the organisation's primary objective is to build a community of individuals dedicated to making a difference through their unwavering determination. Alex was inspired by his father, who was well-known for his commitment to keeping his word. After his father's passing, Alex delivered a moving eulogy entitled "because I said I would," which sparked a global movement. The organization connects with people worldwide by sending promise cards, encouraging them to make meaningful commitments. Since its establishment, over 1.3 million promise cards have been distributed in 105 countries, expanding the organization's reach and impact. Leading by example, Alex personally makes promises to help others, such as raising funds for children fighting cancer and providing vital assistance after Hurricane Sandy. Additionally, Alex delivers passionate speeches about the importance of honoring promises, with 100% of the proceeds benefiting the organization's initiatives. These initiatives include volunteer projects, awareness campaigns, and character education programs. As a testament to the organization's influence, Alex's work has gained national recognition, and he has had the honor of delivering two TEDx talks.
We live in a society that often does not respect the importance of a promise. It’s too easy to say “I’ll get to it” or “tomorrow.” In many ways, we have become numb to the disappointment from broken commitments, and this numbness can enter our homes, our workplaces, our schools, our communities…but Alex Sheen believes that every individual has the strength to become a person of their word.
Alex Sheen's talk, "The Impact of Promises," emphasizes the profound effect that keeping promises can have on trust and accountability in personal and professional relationships.
