The working world is changing dramatically thanks to the spread of AI across functions and industries. But at our best, human beings still have distinctive strengths over even the most sophisticated AI: we’re able to make wise decisions and creative choices in ambiguous situations; we can be empathic and insightful in getting the best out of our colleagues; we can inspire and motivate our fellow humans in pursuit of great goals; we can help our colleagues be resilient and resourceful in challenging times. And if we’re to stay relevant in the future workplace, we are going to need to make sure we’re maximizing our capacity to play to those precious human strengths of wisdom, empathy, inspiration, and resilience. Luckily, behavioral science is pretty clear on what it takes for leaders and managers to create an environment that enables those human strengths to flourish. We all just need to learn a little about how the human brain works – as Caroline will show in this talk.

There are days when we‘re at our best as leaders – we’re wise and insightful when the way forward isn’t clear, we’re empathetic and inspirational with our colleagues, and we’re resilient to the ups and downs of professional life. But it‘s sometimes hard to be that brilliant version of ourselves, especially when we‘re exhausted or dealing with especially stressful and uncertain situations. In this talk, Caroline will explain what the human brain needs to function at its best under pressure and explore how this science points to small daily changes that can make it easier for us to lead with wisdom, empathy, inspiration, and empathy, creating the best possible environment for our teams to thrive and excel whatever is happening in the wider world.
