Neal S. Wolin is a prominent figure in public policy, business, law, and communications. Born in 1961, Wolin began his career after graduating from Yale University with a Bachelor's degree in History and a Master's degree in Development Economics from the University of Oxford. He then earned his Juris Doctorate from Yale Law School.
Wolin's professional journey spans various sectors. Before joining the Brunswick Group, where he currently serves as CEO, he held significant roles in the public sector. Notably, he was the Deputy Secretary of the U.S. Treasury from May 2009 to September 2013, making him the longest-serving in U.S. history. During this period, he acted as the Treasury Department's Chief Operating Officer, overseeing all bureaus and offices, and played a crucial role in shaping the Obama Administration's financial reform plan.
In addition to his work at the Treasury, Wolin has held other notable positions. He was the President and COO of The Hartford Financial Services Group, a $20 billion Fortune 200 company, where he managed their legal, government affairs, communications, marketing, and tax functions. His government experience also includes stints as Deputy Assistant and Deputy Counsel to the President for Economic Policy under Obama and as General Counsel of the U.S. Treasury during the Clinton Administration.
Wolin is a member of several boards, including Yale University's Board of Trustees, the Partnership for Public Service, Results for America, and the Atlantic Council. He also serves on the board of SocialCapital, an equity partner at Data Collective Venture Capital, and a limited partner advisor to Nyca Partners.
