Monder Ram is an expert in ethnic minority entrepreneurship and small firm policy. He has a BA and DMS from the University of Central England, an MA from the University of Warwick, and a PhD from Warwick Business School, focusing on management, control, ethnicity, and the labour process.
Monder is the Director of the Centre for Research in Ethnic Minority Entrepreneurship at Aston Business School, where he researches and consults for small and ethnic minority businesses. He is a leading authority in this area, with many publications and frequent speaking engagements at international conferences. He also advises the government on these issues through his role on the All-Party Parliamentary Group for BAME Business Owners.
He holds visiting fellowships at the Industrial Relations Research Unit at Warwick University and the University of Turku in Finland. His professional affiliations include membership in UNITEE, the Research Advisory Group for the Food, Farming and Countryside Commission, and the Judging Panel for the Queen’s Award for Enterprise. He is also a Non-Executive Director at ART Business Loans.
Monder has received recognition for his contributions, including an OBE for his services to black and ethnic minority businesses and being named one of the country’s most influential Asians by the Institute of Asian Professionals. He started the annual Ethnic Minority Business Conference in 1998, which is a key platform for discussing policy and research related to ethnic minority firms. Monder has highlighted the challenges faced by these businesses, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, and has appeared in various media outlets to discuss their economic impact. His work has significantly advanced the understanding and support of ethnic minority entrepreneurship.
